The Northwestern Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence (CASMI) co-hosted a workshop on October 16-17 in Washington, D.C. titled “Operationalizing the Measure Function of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk Management Framework.”

Nicholas Diakopoulos, professor of communication studies in Northwestern’s School of Communication and (by courtesy) of computer science in Northwestern Engineering, presented "Anticipating the Impacts of AI in the Context of Policy."

The event also included presentations by: Cathy O’Neil, CEO of O'Neil Risk Consulting & Algorithmic Auditing (ORCAA) and author of the bestselling book "Weapons of Math Destruction;" Rumman Chowdhury, Humane Intelligence founder and CEO; and Reva Schwartz, NIST research scientist.
