Original Irish Underground Interview with John Lattner. While playing college football for the University of Notre Dame, he won the Heisman Trophy in 1953. He also won the Maxwell Award twice, in 1952 and 1953. Lattner played one season in the National Football League for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1954. John discusses the Notre Dame vs. Texas Game of 1952. The story is how Coach Frank Leahy talked the Texas AD to let the Irish stand on the same side of the field and to the left of Texas team in the 103 degree temperatures. In the third and 4th quarters, the Irish were in the shade and had enough left to defeat Texas 14-3.
