Learn the parts of a flower and their functions and the flower structure with a natural flower. Know how to dissect a flower to see the parts inside it.

The four main parts of a flower include the carpel, stamen, petals and sepals. The carpel, which is also known as the female part of a flower, consists of three parts; stigma, style and ovary. The stamen, which is also known as the male part of a flower, contains the anther and filament. There are also several other parts of a flower such as receptacle, nectary, stalk etc. Learn about all these parts and their functions with this video.

Flowers play an important role in our ecosystem. A flower's primary goal is sexual reproduction. Plant reproduction helps in the spread of their species in the environment and ensures the survival of their species. A flower's parts all work together to help it grow, reproduce, attract pollinators, and bear fruit. They feed pollinators like bees and butterflies, which pollinate plants and allow them to proliferate. As a result, without flowers, many plant species would perish, and the entire ecosystem would suffer. Knowing the anatomy of a flower and the functions of each part of a flower allows us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of flowers as well as their value in the ecosystem.
