Porter's generic strategies, or Porter's strategic matrix, show the ways in which a business may try to seek a competitive advantage over rivals. They can do this either with a strategy of low cost or differentiation and by targeting either niche or mass markets. The names of the different strategies are cost leadership, cost focus, differentiation leadership and differentiation focus.
