Handel's Water Music has traditionally been divided into three suites; however, recent research has shown that it is most likely one continuous work: this video is taken directly from the performance of the new edition and presented here for the first time in 4K, ultra high definition video.
No autograph timpani parts survive for the Water Music, but advertisements for performances in Drury Lane and Lincoln's Inn Fields feature them prominently: "After the play, Mr Handel's Water-Musick, in which Mr Benj Baker will beat the kettle-drums, accompanied by trumpets and French horns." For this recording, period instrument specialist Maarten van der Valk performs his reconstruction of the timpani parts.
