Small trucks are gaining popularity, and it appears that Toyota might revive a classic name, the Toyota Stout, for a new compact pickup truck. This truck would compete against others like the Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and possibly the Ram Rampage.

The rumors started in January 2023 when reports from South Africa mentioned a new small truck in development.
Toyota Senior Assistant Leon Theron said, "Watch this space in the next three years for the LCV (light commercial vehicle) segment with potentially a small [truck] from Toyota."
More recently, another Toyota representative in South Africa seemed to confirm the new truck. They mentioned it would be smaller and more affordable than the Hilux and might be available around 2025/26.
Glenn Crompton stated, '"We believe it will take the market by storm and are still doing a lot of development around it.”
However, if Toyota is indeed considering reviving the Stout name, it's essential to explore the history of the Stout and what the new Toyota Stout will bring to the table.
