Hey guys. I think shop presses are cool. I love their power and think that it’s so neat when they crush something. It’s now winter, and I’m kinda bored, so I am going to make myself a shop press with the sole purpose of crushing things. It’s also important to note that I know next to nothing about metal and working with metal. I have a picture in my mind of what I want and that’s all we are going to base this project on. I bought some metal, some basic tools and a lot to learn. Oh yeah, I also somehow ended up with a welder. Let’s get started.
I start off with a 3-in frame using square piping. I use channel iron to make 2 sliders. The first slider sits the jack and will push down on the slider below. That slider is attached to the frame but is adjustable with 2 bolts. Since the jack is on 2 large springs it will automatically retreat once the pressure is released.
Once built, I give a demo by crushing a pop can and them some random toys. To take the project to the next step I can paint it.
It was a super fun project and a great learning experience. Make sure to like this video and subscribe to see what other random project I’m up to.
