The Pace Report: "The Woke Black Wall Street" The Nikara Warren Interview
Welcome to this special edition of @ThePaceReport live from the 2023 Jersey City Jazz Festival presented by @RiverviewJazz featuring vibraphonist Nikara Warren.

During the COVID-19 global shutdown, Brooklyn native Nikara composed and put together some of the most conscious music that reflects the times that America is living in real time. Nikita Presents Black Wall Street are a set of compositions where she explores issues ranging from female identity("Womb Woes"], to police murder and brutality("Run Ricky"), and socio-economic injustice("Perseverance").,

Her band Black Wall Street fuses hip-hop, jazz, Afro-Carbbean, and other forms of progressive music. Her grandfather, NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron, also appears on the record. The band was named after the destruction of the Greenwood neighborhood during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Nikara also raps on the album under the name "Nikki T".

We sat down after her set to talk about her Brooklyn and musical upbringing, how she's educating her fans on the social issues through her music, and how Nikra decided to play the vibes.
