I have returned to my beloved island and country for the fifth time in the last two years. You already know how much I love this country and how much I enjoy experiencing its hospitality, nature, and food. All the videos filmed in Sri Lanka in this series aim to promote tourism in the country and, at the same time, promote the project for special children in Sri Lanka. The project aims to build accessible toilets for special children on this beautiful island. 🙏🏽

Sri Lanka is renowned for its gemstones, and gem mining has been a traditional industry for centuries. The island nation is particularly known for its wealth of precious and semi-precious stones, including sapphires, rubies, topazes, and amethysts.

Gem mining in Sri Lanka is primarily conducted in the southwestern regions, where there are rich deposits of gem-bearing gravel. The miners usually work in small groups, using traditional methods and simple tools to sift through the gravel and extract the precious stones. The process is hard and labor-intensive, but the rewards can be great for those who strike lucky.

One of the most famous gem mines in Sri Lanka is the Ratnapura mine, which is located in the Sabaragamuwa province. This mine has been in operation for over a century and has produced some of the country's most valuable gems. Other notable mines include the Elahera and Metiyagoda mines, which are also located in the southwestern region.

Once the gems have been extracted from the gravel, they are usually taken to local markets or sold to dealers who export them to other countries. Sri Lanka's gemstones are highly sought after by collectors and jewelers around the world because of their exceptional quality and unique colors.

Sri Lanka's gem mines are an important part of the country's cultural and economic heritage. The mining industry provides employment opportunities for thousands of people, and the gems it produces are a source of pride and prosperity for the nation.

But we also should not forget the dangerous sides of this business, and the video documentary will summarize it all for you.
