Huge thanks to @LexusUSA for providing this 2023 Lexus ES300h F-Sport Handling for a week in a gorgeous shade of Ultra Sonic Blue Metallic 2.0. But boy do I have some thoughts about this particular model. The ES as a platform, shared with the defunct Avalon, is due for an overhaul, but it remains a solid seller pushing over 40k units a year in the US. But out of the ES250 and ES350, the 300h stands out with 44MPG and smooth FWD Hybrid powertrain.

Though as a luxury sedan first, I will admit a “Handling” package is not necessary… even if I quite like the F-Sport specific styling inside and out; not to mention the gorgeous (optional) triple-beam LED lights. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

[@Alllcarnews Spec Sheet: Under the hood of the 2023 ES300h is a smooth 2.5L 4-cylinder paired to a hybrid system to produce a combined 215HP to the front wheels through an eCVT. The advantage? Up to around 44MPG combined. ]

This package is $2k more than the F-Sport design and simply adds Lexus’s Adaptive Variable suspension. And while the suspicion works as advertised, my week of testing led me to conclude it’s not meant for the ES as in all situations the car felt like it was forced to be stiffer/tighter; something its not meant for. Nonetheless, the ES is comfortable, very efficient, and the New Lexus touch interface is welcome.

But at $54k, my tester lacked a HUD, lacked premium camera, the Mark Levinson audio system, lacks heated rear seats, and lacked a panoramic roof. I love the F-Sport seats, the LFA inspired gauges and even the Circuit Red interior… but if I were buying an ES, I would personally choose the Ultra Luxury, Luxury, or even F-Sport Styling trims just for that softer, more appropriate suspension setup.
