The Colorado Rockies finished last season with a 59-103 record, the worst record in franchise history, putting them in last place, saving the Giants from that unfortunate fate after their second half meltdown. They were the only team in the National League to lose 100 games and had the 3rd worst record in all of baseball, with only the Royals and A’s doing worse. So, the question is, have they improved going in to 2024 and do they have a chance to not finish in last this year?
Well, they made a few moves but nothing that really moves that needle too much. The biggest thing the Rockies can hope for is less injuries this year and more productive years out of their players. Brendan Rodgers played in just 46 games, but he’s having a great Spring and should be healthy this year. Of course, the big superstar signing Kris Byrant played in just 80 games; he’ll need stay healthy and productive this year. They had injuries to their pitching staff like German Marquez and Ryan Feltner. Marquez is still recovering from Tommy John.
But a few moves were made this offseason; they improved the rotation by acquring Cal Quantrill and signing free agent Dakota Hudson. They signed Jacob Stallings to share catching duties with Eliaz Diaz and they also brought back Sam Hilliard after he left to Atlanta for a season. Again, nothing too major but let’s look at the team they got in 2024.
