Do you get what you pay for?

I’ve had the privilege of showing you a wide variety of laser engravers, from the low end of expense to the medium to higher range. They’re all good for what they offer within their budget range. This is at the higher end. This is the XTOOL D1 Pro 20W.

So, do you get what you pay for with this machine? In a word, the answer is, yes.

Full disclosure: XTOOL sent me this laser engraver at the cost of an honest review. They specified “honest” as a requirement and asked little else from me other than a short video within a few weeks of receipt of the tool. So, other than my time in learning the machine and provided software, as well as the time and efforts in video production, this tool cost no out of pocket money to me.

I say this, because I understand that recommending a product that I have not “paid for” might seem like an easy thing for me to do. It is not. I’m always prepared to turn these offers down, return inferior products, and discuss the bad and the good with you. My purpose isn’t solely to increase my tool inventory and crafting resources… it is also to show you some real options from a wide variety of brand names and price points so you can make a better informed decision for your own purposes.

My thoughts on the XTOOL D1 Pro 20W laser engraver:
-It’s well made. Very sturdy and it’s obvious that thought was given to not just appearance, which is very clean, but also to function.
-I found the directions to be professionally done, not only the large booklet enclosed, but the online resources as well. My initial thoughts in opening the instructions were that there might be a reason this machine is more expensive… XTOOL didn’t take any shortcuts.
-The machine set up was easy.
-Using this laser engraver was a little different than I was used to. The cross hair for centering the target material is handy. The laser head is manually moved with this, for centering, at least while using the XTool Creative Space software. Not a problem at all, just an observation.
-The software provided is GREAT. I have yet to try this XTool D1 Pro with Lightburn, as there was no need and I wanted to keep this review organic to what was provided to me.
XTool Creative Space has left me very impressed. The resources provided, the options for preprogramed materials/laser power/speed makes things super easy. The learning curve is there, but not so steep… plus there’s YouTube videos-a-plenty to refer to.
-There is a level of professionalism with this item, resources available, booklet production quality, and support that seems above and beyond expectations. That is a rare thing these days.
