When I first bought this lathe, the compound and cross feed screws were broken not allowing the mounting of the hand cranks. Here I show how I went about salvaging the original compound screw and re-fitting it with a second hand hand crank that I picked up off Facebook. When it was all said and done, unless you take it apart, you cannot tell it was repaired. This repair is also very solid and I don't see it comming apart anytime soon.
This method can be used with many different types of screws and shafts that don't require high torque applications.
