I recently put up a video of me upgrading the pickups in a Gretsch Electromatic G5429t. I installed some T.V. Jones Brian Setzer model pickups. During the installation, I notes that I couldn’t get the pickups up as close to the strong as I would like. Even shortening the springs wasn’t enough. At that time I decided to get them as close as that would allow and call it done.
Well, I’m not one to just leave things alone, so I dug around YouTube and found one single video from several years ago. T.V. Jones installing upgrades pickups in a G5120 model. He was using his pick up risers that they make and had mentioned because of the neck angle, they were absolutely needed. Of course, I realized I needed those, went to Sweetwaters website, and found them.
They’re not very expensive, they look good, and made all the difference.
Quick side note, I also noticed the pickguard Sits perfectly on the “shelf” of the bridge pickup ring with 2 risers under it. A bonus in keeping the pickguard in place.
