13 mile loop hike to Tahquitz Peak 8850 ft In elevation in Idyllwild, CA

Starting at Humber Park, you'll need an Adventure or similar pass with a hang tag to park there at the trailhead.

You go up Devils Slide Trail (special wilderness permit required especially during the summer months), it's a 2.5 miles shaded climb to Saddle Junction, then it's just under 2 more miles to Tahquitz Peak Fire Lookout at 8850 ft elevation.

You can get both the pass and permit at the Idyllwild Range Station in the middle of town in Idlewild.

After enjoying the panoramic view at the top, return back via South Ridge Trail. It's an easy but exposed 3.5 mile descent to the trailhead. Then you'll need to hiked down another mile along the steep forest road.

Once you get to the main road, walk along it for 1/2 mile and you'll get to the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail trailhead to take you back up to Humber Park. This last part is a 2.5 mi long and up 800 ft.
