Pope Francis led tens of thousands of Catholics in prayer in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby on September 8, 2024. During his visit, the pontiff called for the nation to end tribal violence and to fairly share its resources. Francis then flew to a deep jungle area to visit Catholics in the town of Vanimo. One of the remotest corners of the world, the area has no running water and scarce electricity. The pope brought hundreds of kilograms of supplies to help support the local population, according to a Vatican spokesman.
