Replacing the serpentine belt tensioner on a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with a 6.4L, 6.1L, or 5.7L Hemi engine involves a straightforward process. Here's a general guide on how to replace the serpentine belt tensioner:

Tools and Materials Needed:

Replacement serpentine belt tensioner
Socket set
Serpentine belt tool or breaker bar
Torque wrench
Procedure:

Locate the Serpentine Belt Tensioner: The serpentine belt tensioner is typically located near the center of the engine, above or below the serpentine belt. It's a spring-loaded pulley that applies tension to the belt to keep it properly tensioned.

Disconnect the Negative Battery Terminal: As a safety precaution, disconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery to prevent accidental electrical shorts.

Release Belt Tension: Using a serpentine belt tool or a breaker bar inserted into the square hole on the tensioner arm, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to release tension on the belt. This will allow you to slip the belt off the tensioner pulley.

Remove the Serpentine Belt: Slide the serpentine belt off the tensioner pulley and other pulleys in the belt path. Note the belt routing to ensure correct installation of the new belt.

Remove the Old Tensioner: Using a socket set, loosen and remove the bolts securing the old tensioner to the engine block. Keep track of the bolts as you'll need them for the new tensioner.

Install the New Tensioner: Position the new tensioner in place and hand-tighten the mounting bolts. Then, use a torque wrench to torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.

Reinstall the Serpentine Belt: Slide the serpentine belt onto the pulleys in the correct routing pattern, ensuring it is properly seated on each pulley. Refer to the belt routing diagram if needed.

Apply Tension to the Belt: Use the serpentine belt tool or breaker bar to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise again, allowing the belt to slip onto the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner slowly to apply tension to the belt.

Check Belt Alignment: Once the belt is installed, visually inspect it to ensure it is aligned correctly on all pulleys.

Reconnect the Battery Terminal: Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

Start the Engine and Check for Proper Operation: Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few moments. Listen for any unusual noises or vibrations and visually inspect the belt to ensure it is running smoothly on all pulleys.

Final Inspection: Double-check all connections and bolts to ensure everything is secure. Close the hood and take the vehicle for a short test drive to verify proper operation.

By following these steps, you can replace the serpentine belt tensioner on your Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with a 6.4L, 6.1L, or 5.7L Hemi engine. If you're unsure about any aspect of the process, consider consulting a professional mechanic for assistance.
