The U.S. Postal Service touches virtually every U.S. household and business and is critical to the national economy. However, it has lost over 87 billion in recent years due to declining mail volumes and rising costs.

The U.S. Postal Service has taken some steps to address its financial challenges, but legal requirements limit its ability to change certain service offerings, pricing, and employee compensation or benefits.

Congress should consider reassessing what postal services the nation needs, how those services should be funded, and more.
