Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!

In this episode, we carry up 17 white pine boards, plane them, and install them on the porch floor. It took some time to scribe them around posts, but we love the final look. We then sand and stain the boards. We also carry up new water containers and finalize our rainwater collection system. Lastly, we finally get started on chinking. We decided to use a mortar mix that we learned from The Outsider, which he got from The Bearded Carpenter. It consists of 6 parts general purpose sand, 1 part type I cement, and 1 part type N cement. We then add water until the consistency is workable but not too liquid. The mortar adheres very well to the logs and looks very good. We will have to finish up the chinking next episode.

We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.
